Help Restore an Oak Savanna and Pioneer Cemetery

Third Saturday of the month, 1 to 3:30 pm

Come to our regularly scheduled restoration day of each month--Or call us and we'll plan a restoration day to fit your schedule!

Join with other nature-loving volunteers at the Alden Sedge Meadow, a McHenry County Conservation District site, to restore a globally-endangered ecosystem. We will be removing invasive plants, sowing native seeds, and stacking brush. No previous experience required! We will provide training, work gloves and tools. Please dress in layers, and wear sturdy shoes or boots. After working, we will take an interpretive walk in this amazing natural area, normally closed to the public except for occasions like this.

Meet at 15820 IL Route 173, between Hebron and Harvard, Illinois.

Call Jack or Judy Speer at 815-648-1372 to let us know you are coming!

Sauerkraut and Fermentation

Thursday, Nov. 15, 7 to 9 pm

Join us as we chop, pound, salt, repeat!
We'll discuss the process and benefits of making and consuming raw sauerkraut and kimchi. Come learn how to make your own raw sauerkraut and kimchi or share your knowledge and talk with other fellow fermenters.
We will taste some ferments and you will have the opportunity to make your own small batch of sauerkraut to take with you.
Bring a quart mason jar (wide mouth opening preferred) if you can, some will be available for a minimal fee.
Also, feel free to bring your own fermentation creation to share!
